Westküste 100: HYDROGEN ECONOMY ON AN INDUSTRIAL SCALE
Information
In the WESTKÜSTE 100 regulatory sandbox in Schleswig-Holstein, the use of hydrogen is being tested and researched in a wide variety of areas. Sustainable heating, construction, aviation, electrolysis, sector coupling, and CO2 emission reduction – the Westküste 100 real-world laboratory project aims to establish a regional hydrogen economy on an industrial scale in Schleswig-Holstein. The goal is to harness wind energy from Northern Germany to produce hydrogen in sufficient quantities, thereby accelerating the decarbonization of heating, transportation, and industry. At the heart of the project is a research and development initiative focused on generating green hydrogen from offshore wind power while utilizing the resulting waste heat and oxygen. The green hydrogen will then be used for the production of climate-friendly aviation fuels and fed into gas networks. For fuel production, hydrogen obtained via electrolysis will be combined with CO2 generated during cement production.
